Now, this will rais some hair on the back of your neck.November 4, 2015If the listener hasn’t become acquainted with his work, Spitting Devil is a rewarding introduction to Brian Freeman. More of a novella or long short story than a novel, his story writing acumen is no less apparent in this fine glimpse of thriller technique than in his longer works. Mr. Freeman has the ability to develop a character in short order, without burdening the listener with cluttering unnecessary exposition or details that do little to push the story forward. Topping that attribute, is his sense of what is scary and what is old hat. Old hat never being used in this thoroughly enjoyable listen, delivered with the always dependable characterization of the narrator, Joe Barrett. – Odin Roark
Joe Barrett has appeared both on and off Broadway as well as in hundreds of radio and television commercials. He has earned multiple AudioFile Earphones Awards and has been nominated for the prestigious Audie Award. He has narrated books by such authors as Trevanian, Brian Freeman, Don Winslow, and James W. Huston.
