There are bad boys and then there are the men of Devil’s Rock . . . Some men come with a built-in warning label. Knox Callaghan is one of them. Danger radiates from every lean, muscled inch of him, and his deep blue eyes seem to see right through to Briar Davis’s most secret fantasies. But there’s one major problem: Briar is a nurse volunteering at the local prison, and Knox is an inmate who should be off-limits in every way. Knox feels it too—a shocking animal magnetism that drives him to risk his own life to protect Briar’s. Paroled at last, he tries to resist her. She’s too innocent, too sweet, and she has no idea what Knox is capable of. But a single touch can lead to a kiss—and a taste . . . until the only crime is denying what feels so right . . . “When the prison doors are open, the real dragon will fly out.”—Ho Chi Minh

“Raw, forbidden, and scorchingly hot! I couldn’t put it down!” Laura Kaye, New York Times bestselling author
“I read the gritty, sexy as hell, addictive story in one sitting!” Kresley Cole, New York Times bestselling author
“Tense and action-packed, the first half of the novel gives way to an angst-filled second half where Briar and Knox attempt to ignore their attraction and attachment.” RT Book Reviews
“[A] steamy contemporary romance…Jordan spins a good yarn.” Publishers Weekly
“Jordan starts her new Devil’s Rock series off with a bang. The incendiary sexual chemistry between tougher-than-she-looks Briar and bad-boy-with-a-heart-of-gold Knox is hot enough to singe readers’ fingers, and the fast-paced plot guarantees they will finish this edgy romance in one sitting.” Booklist
“Narrator Christian Fox delivers just what Sophie Jordan’s All Chained Up calls for…Fox punches into Briar’s well-constructed defenses with Knox’s intense dialogue, which digs under her skin. Listeners won’t be immune to the hair-raising prison fight that exposes Briar to the violence she’s always feared…[and] the visceral connection he establishes between Knox and Briar. Once you press play, you won’t want to hit pause.” AudioFile

Story

Unintentionally Hilarious

To begin with, I am not generally a romance novel reader. Frankly, I laughed my way through this book. I tried to figure out what the narrator's voice made me think of, and then once I figured it out (he sounds like Tina Belcher from Bob's Burgers) my laughter was doubled. I don't want to dump all over writers/performers. I am not the target market for this book (and I did enjoy it, in my own way!).

I will say that I was disappointed that the book showcased such appalling decisions by its characters (such as having unprotected sex with a man who just got out of prison). The main character talked repeatedly about her sex: her sex tingled, her sex pulsed, her sex burned (um, remember that unprotected sex . . . ?). The main character often "fingers" the lead's hair which just sounds wrong. The main character is incredibly violent, but repeatedly asserts that the female lead "makes him" that way. The male lead talks repeatedly about hating rape and rapists, but then has sex with the main character while she is asleep.

The main character is so stupid at points as to seem almost like she has an intellectual impairment. At one point she dresses up in booty shorts and a white t-shirt or something and goes out to wash her car on the street. When she attracts attention she's like "What? Men are looking at me?!". It's just weird. How she has lived this long is beyond me. Also, she has hair that is out of control--that makes her relateable!!

Randomly in the middle of the book there is a chapter from a totally random character that is meant to set up a sequel--the fact that this chapter showcases a young woman held captive and about to be raped by a group of tough guys (something that is not resolved in this book--better buy that sequel!) indicates that maybe this author only wants to deal in rape-based romances which . . . hmm.

This is like trying to write a review for Troll 2--I enjoyed myself, but for all the wrong reasons.
