Political intrigue, culture clash and romance make a stirring mix in this award-winning follow-up novel to the acclaimed Shards of Honor. In the wake of interplanetary war, former commander Cordelia Naismith has deserted her own planet to marry the leader of the defeated enemy, Aral Vorkosigan. On his home planet of Barrayar, two rival factions are eyeing the recently vacated throne, and Aral, recently appointed regent of Barrayar by the emperor on his deathbed, must stand between them. As Lord and Lady Vorkosigan, Aral and Cordelia struggle to establish stability in a fragile government thrown into confusion by the transition of power and the threat of civil war. When a palace coup endangers the government, their lives, and her unborn son, Cordelia takes action to secure the safety of her new family and new home.

Great story
-
Much of what I said about Shards of Honor applies, except that this book is better. The characters are still great thanks to being competent and mature. It's really nice to see a couple that actually talks and doesn't have stupid conflicts due to misunderstandings. The scene where Cordelia mediates between Drou and Kou is pure gold. :)
My criticism of Grover Gardner's narration still stands, to an extent. A deep male voice isn't the most suitable, IMO, for narrating from a woman's perspective. However there are quite a few male characters this time, and I love his Bothari, so I enjoyed his narration more than in Shards of Honor.
All in all, an interesting story well told.

Great title
- This was the third book that I have read in the Vorkosigan series and love it. I wish I could put more time into listening this series. Grover Gardner continues to prove is reputation as a great narrator. I feel that Lois Bujold has also proven her weight in the scifi arena.
