Before Liz Lemon, before “Weekend Update,” and before “Sarah Palin,” Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: a recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on television. She has seen both of these dreams come true. At last, Tina Fey’s story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live to her passionately halfhearted pursuit of physical beauty. From her life as a mother eating things off the floor to a one-sided college romance to her nearly fatal honeymoon, Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we have all suspected: you’re no one until someone calls you bossy.

Funny stuff

Tina Fey is as funny in this book as she has been in anything else. Hearing about her background was interesting, but I didn't even care much about the "memoir" stuff so much as her humorous quips. The few times I've watched 30 Rock I didn't like it all, but hearing Fey talk about the show actually made me consider giving it another chance. It was also nice to hear a celebrity talk about realizing how lucky they are to be where they are. Overall the book was worth it for the one-liners alone.

Possibly the funniest audiobook ... ever.

I'm biased. I've been a big Tina Fey fan for a long time. And this audiobook only showcases how funny she really is. Here is her memoir ... or rather, a series of hilarious essays strung together to fit chronological timeline of her life. We already know she's a great writer, what with her work on SNL and 30 Rock, but she's also a fantastic narrator. Like any good improv theater geek, she can't quite stick to the written text, and the world should be thanking her for that. As far as the actual content, it's all top-notch. Her disastrous honeymoon aboard a cruise ship makes me giggle even as I type this. In short, this is an audiobook you simply can't miss—just be careful where you listen to it. My raucous laughter wasn't much appreciated by the guy on the treadmill next to mine.

Add my glowing review to the list....

Can anyone listen to Tina Fey and NOT laugh? This book is hilarious, smart, quippy writing delivered with amazing timing, a healthy dose of self deprecating sarcasm, and the ability to make fun other people and society without seeming mean-spirited or bitter. Bossypants is a wonderful blend of Tina's own stories and anecdotes along with intelligent jokes and the quirky humor that fans of 30 Rock, Mean Girls, and SNL know and love. She tries to downplay what a celebrity and writing talent she is with raves about her industry peers, but you're not fooling us Tina. LOVE this book, especially in audio.

Very Entertaining

My only complaint is it was too short! The narration was wonderful and the hilarious stories made me laugh out loud. I was curious about some passages where they edited more than a few paragraphs with the first sentences repeated. It almost seemed intentional since the lines were read with differing inflections. It wasn't that jarring just a little strange. The book was wonderful overall.

Wonderful story, wonderfully read.

If you haven't heard Tina read Bossypants, you haven't read it. It is THE ONLY WAY to truly get what this book is about. Much like listening to David Sedaris reading his stories, there is so much in the telling of these stories that it doesn't seem fair they release this book in paper form.

GET IT! LOVE IT!

Tina, you are marvellous!

I haven't actually listened to the audiobook, but being that Tina wrote the title AND read it, I'm sure the audiobook is just as good as the eBook.

Her stories come across just as funny and entertaining, yet real, as she comes across on our television screens. I actually feel like her and I have been friends for years after reading the book. Loved it!

A Funny and Inspirational Story...

I've actually listened to this audio book from beginning to end and I can highly recommend it for anyone. From the very beginning to the end Tina Fey offers her comedic genius, and sarcasm, to the listener. As typical of an autobiography she covers everything from her childhood, including her famous scar, her struggles in improve, her success on SNL and 30 Rock, to tips on handling life and being a parent.

Tina Fey mixes perfectly her sarcasm into her life story and there was rarely a moment where I stopped laughing. Even during the serious moments of her life she able to offer a comedic twist to it to lighten up the mood. Tina also teaches the listener to have fun within their life because it is too short. Definitely a great listen!

Funny and revealing

I’ve always been ambivalent about Tina Fey, neither for nor against the bespectacled comedienne. However, more than a few of my friends and colleagues recommended “Bossypants” to me, and so I gave it a chance. I was pleasantly surprised. She told some very funny stories, her delivery was great, and there were even some clips from “Saturday Night Live” included in the audio. This was a very entertaining listen that kept my attention from beginning to end. Whatever your feelings about Tina Fey, at least give her a chance. I actually earned some respect for her, regardless of the fact that I don’t necessarily agree with her on everything. She’s just a woman trying to make it in a predominantly male profession.
