- This was a fun book, especially for someone with a major sweet tooth. Steve Almond is one of my favorite fiction writers, but this is a great nonfiction exploration into candy, and specifically smaller independent candy companies. It's almost like David Sedaris doing more reportage and focusing on a single topic. The narrator was ok, but he tends to overdo it at times with his emphasizing certain passages and he gets a tone of voice that can only be construed as "cutesy." In the end this was definitely worth the time, though it made me hungry.
