Editorial Reviews

Editorial Reviews

“Bledsoe’s third tale of the Tufa—Appalachia-dwelling descendants of the Fae, all possessing great musical talent—sees two of their own returning, after a long exile, to fight for leadership of the community…The core concept is solid and fascinating; the execution strikes just the right tone between fantastic and tragic. Bledsoe plays with lyrics and atmosphere, incorporates folklore and superstition to good effect, and even toys with alternate history for further resonance.” Publishers Weekly
Long Black Curl is an intricate and multifaceted story. It’s no secret that music stirs the soul, and combining that with a folk-tale setting makes for a deeply heart-rending novel. While this is third in the Tufa series, new readers will be more than able to enjoy the story, and fans will especially appreciate the progression of characters and events.” RT Book Reviews (4 stars)

Story

Shocking and compelling

I think of all the books in the series this one has possibly the most universal appeal, yet also is most reliant upon the story told in the previous books. The central characters are like forces of nature that cannot be controlled, yet possibly exist to create positive change in those who are trying to stop their destructiveness. But there is more to them than just challenging their environments — they have a story of their own and there is redemption in it. It is easy to get caught up in the action of this story, which fits in well with the series as a whole. More important than any one character is the setting and the humanity of the other characters that we have gotten to know already.
