#1 New York Times bestselling author! Simon Snow is the worst Chosen One who's ever been chosen. That's what his roommate, Baz, says. And Baz might be evil and a vampire and a complete git, but he's probably right. Half the time, Simon can't even make his wand work, and the other half, he starts something on fire. His mentor's avoiding him, his girlfriend broke up with him, and there's a magic-eating monster running around, wearing Simon's face. Baz would be having a field day with all this, if he were here--it's their last year at the Watford School of Magicks, and Simon's infuriating nemesis didn't even bother to show up. Carry On is a ghost story, a love story and a mystery. It has just as much kissing and talking as you'd expect from a Rainbow Rowell story - but far, far more monsters.

Editorial Reviews

"Carry On is a triumph. Thrilling and sexy, funny and shocking, deeply moving and very, very magical. Trust me, you have never, ever seen a wizard school like this.” Lev Grossman, #1 New York Times bestselling author
“Full of heart and humor, this fantastical tale is a worthy addition to the wizarding-school genre.” People
“It’s a brilliantly addictive, genuinely romantic story about teenagers who can’t be neatly sorted into houses, coping with stress and loss and the confusion of just trying to be who they are. It’s as if Rowell turned the Harry Potter books inside out and is showing us the marvelous, subversive stuffing inside.” Time
“Rowell imbues her magic with awe and spectacle. It’s a powerful, politically minded allegory about sexual, ethnic, and class identity—with a heady shot of teenage lust.” New York Times Book Review
“Rowell’s mystery, magic, and political intrigue is the sexiest love story I’ve read in a long time.” Atlantic
“The funny, wised-up dialogue, the tumultuous, sweet, and sexy love story―is grade-A Rowell…almost impossible to put down.” Publishers Weekly (starred review)
“With rock-solid worldbuilding, a sweet and believable romance subplot, and satisfying ending, Carry On is a monumentally enjoyable reading experience.” School Library Journal (starred review)
“Stock up on copies―this one begs to be reread.” Booklist (starred review)
“There’s something spellbinding about Euan Morton’s voice, which is only appropriate for this novel set in magical England…Using subtle changes to differentiate characters and indicate different social classes and genders, Morton’s voice goes rough and growly, sharp and cultured as he inhabits Simon Snow, his friends Penelope and Agatha, and his roommate, Baz, at the Watford School of Magicks…Through it all, Morton stays in perfect, sympathetic step.” AudioFile
Morton makes this romantic fantasy sing with infinite variety...In this blend of ghost story, love story, and mystery, Morton’s narration can be at turns gripping, funny, sexy, shocking, and magical.--Starred Booklist Review

Awesome

Carry On is a book about a ‘chosen one’ in a magical society trying to beat the big bad. Much like Harry Potter, its protagonist, Simon Snow, is simply trying to survive in a society that refuses to accept him and yet considers him their savior. It’s his destiny to beat the evil that is plaguing them, but he doesn’t know how or even what he’s up against. The book is a companion to the author’s other book, Fangirl.

If you liked Harry Potter, you’ll see the similarities (and the differences) and hopefully like this one, too. The characters are realistic and relatable, you can’t help but hope there’s a romance, and you won’t be disappointed. I like the way LGBTQI characters are written in this book - namely, that they’re no different from straight characters, and like most teens, are just figuring out some things about relationships and sex. Personally, I think this is a great read for teens and young adults of all backgrounds, but especially for those who need more LGBTQI role-models. I think this would be a great addition to any YA collection, especially those looking for diverse characters to which teens can relate.
