The most ferociously political and prophetic book of the Cut-Up Trilogy, Nova Express fires the reader into a textual outer space, the better to see our burning planet and the operations of the Nova Mob in all their ugliness. As with The Soft Machine and The Ticket That Exploded, Burroughs deploys his cut-up methods both to scramble the scripts that fix our destinies and to create startling new forms of poetic possibility. Nova Express is a visionary demand to take back the world that has been stolen from us.

Not Impressed
- I finally get to consume more Burroughs and am left unimpressed. I’ve worked with the cut-up/fold-in method as a writer in the past and produced far more palatable works as a result. The process is fun and can produce entertaining results. Burroughs gets the credit for the inspiration, but that’s where it ends. Burroughs seems to delight in making readers try to figure out his writings, and the payoff, for me, is highly unsatisfying. To think he intended this book to be read by twelve-year-old boys. Sorry, Reverend Lee, try again. As far as making this into an audiobook, it just doesn’t translate well. His work is meant to be read with one’s eyeballs, and the readings have to come through you. Instead, we are a provided in audio format, a fixed and static interpretation. A lot of Burroughs intent is lost in audio format. Ramiz, I feel for you. This must have been one hell of a chore to narrate.
