All Denny Malone wants is to be a good cop. He’s the king of Manhattan North, a highly decorated NYPD detective sergeant and the real leader of “Da Force.” Malone and his crew are the smartest, the toughest, the quickest, the bravest, and the baddest, an elite unit given unrestricted authority to wage war on gangs, drugs, and guns. Every day and every night for the eighteen years he’s spent on the Job, Malone has served on the front lines, witnessing the hurt, the dead, the victims, the perps. He’s done whatever it takes to serve and protect in a city built by ambition and corruption, where no one is clean—including Malone himself. What only a few know is that Denny Malone is dirty: he and his partners have stolen millions of dollars in drugs and cash in the wake of the biggest heroin bust in the city’s history. Now Malone is caught in a trap and being squeezed by the feds, and he must walk the thin line between betraying his brothers and partners, the Job, his family, and the woman he loves, trying to survive, body and soul, while the city teeters on the brink of a racial conflagration that could destroy them all. The Force is a haunting story of greed and violence, inequality and race, crime and injustice, retribution and redemption that reveals the seemingly insurmountable tensions between the police and the diverse citizens they serve. A searing portrait of a city and a courageous, heroic, and deeply flawed man who stands at the edge of its abyss, it is a masterpiece of urban realism full of shocking twists, leavened by flashes of dark humor, a morally complex and utterly riveting dissection of modern American society and the controversial issues confronting us today.

Lawless cops do their job of breaking the law for goodness sake.

If you like books that present character you most love to hate, then The Force will satiate your appetite for a few hours. The story concerns a self-centered, incredibly ambitious New York cop whose job it is to cover crime in North Manhattan. Known as the King of Manhattan North, he heads up a crew whose unrestricted authority allows them to make war on many neighborhoods and their respective gangs and drug business. Throughout the book, there is the tension of a well-designed movie script, in that the dialog is very authentic, avoiding the usual cliché talk of far too many crime stories. All in all, this is probably the most hard-edged police novel you’re going to listen to in the months ahead. As narrated by Dion Graham, this books well written text is brought alive, leaving the listen wanting for nothing, save maybe a couple of characters you like to balance such a slew of characters you love to hate.

Best Book of The Summer
- If your looking for a wild ride through the dirt in NYC look no further . This book is amazing such a fast paced crime thriller that you'll be trying to catch your breath and each and every chapter. Forget about trying to figure it out there are so many twists and turns you'll never guess at least I couldn't . The story is about one NYC police hero who is anything but a hero set in these times it's easy to picture this happening ( if it hasn't already ) Denny Malone is a Sargent who is from a long line of NYC police officers and this is his story of what it takes to keep New York City safe , but who is going to keep the citizens safe from the force ? Just a fantastic book , give it a go you'll be glad you did .
