“David Tennant’s atmospheric narration reflects this dark and twisted tale…Tennant creates a distinct voice for each of the characters. His reading of the witty dialogue and descriptions builds a world that immerses listeners in the story. Listeners will be engrossed while waiting to find out what happens next for Xar, Wish, and all of their friends. Winner of the AudioFile Earphones Award.” AudioFile
“A good bedtime story full of magic, told with gusto and performed with no few number of over-the-top character voices. Cressida Cowell’s The Wizards of Once, narrated by the dear and legendary David Tennant (the reigning Scrooge McDuck!), is exactly that. It’s prologue is scored, and Tennant’s mysterious narrator is an unspeaking character in the action itself (or, so he claims). If a gleefully transporting escape from reality is what you want, this is the first place you should start.” Paste magazine
“Funny, thoughtful, and surprisingly wise and lively, this is another coup from Cowell.” Sunday Times (London)
“Spellbinding…The fantasy world and quest-driven plot are a triumph.” Bookseller (UK)
“A clever and fresh new series…Cowell fans will be elated to have a new world to get to know, and they’ll welcome the author’s familiar writing style and humor.” Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books
“Skillfully mixes adventure with silliness in a satisfying story.” Publishers Weekly
