They call him many names, but angelic isn’t one of them. Sebastian Ballister, the notorious Marquess of Dain, is big, bad, and dangerous to know. No respectable woman would have anything to do with the “Bane and Blight of the Ballisters,” and he wants nothing to do with respectable women. He’s determined to continue doing what he does best—sin and sin again—and all’s going swimmingly … until the day a shop door opens and she walks in. She’s too intelligent to fall for the worst man in the world. Jessica Trent is a determined young woman, and she’s going to drag her imbecile brother off the road to ruin, no matter what it takes. If saving him—and with him her family and future—means taking on the devil himself, she won’t back down. The trouble is, the devil in question is so shockingly irresistible that the person who needs saving most is Jessica herself.

“Shimmering with a brilliant elegance, one of the great voices in romance casts a magic spell of enchantment over lucky readers in this sizzling duel of hearts…Ms. Chase is an exquisite storyteller who creates sharply original characters and moves them in new and exciting ways. One of the true treasures of the genre, she epitomizes the essence of excellence in every word she writes. Quality, thy name is Chase!” RT Book Reviews (4 1/2 stars)
“This is the great Chase at the top of her game…The characters are full-bodied and evenly matched. The passion is to die for, and every romance reader I know has this book on their keeper shelf.” Publishers Weekly (10 Best Historical Romance Novels)
“Chase’s witty, smart, and oh-so-delicious novel will be a ‘desert-island keeper’…As clever and delightful as the novel is, narrator Reading elevates it, creating a sparkling, magnificent edition that is not to be missed. She infuses scenes with heady charm and seduction, making the moment even more tense and delectable than it is in print. She creates fabulous voices with deft intonations throughout, such that she is able to perfectly evoke what Dain must have sounded like as he fell to pieces removing Jessica’s multi-button glove. Reading paces her performance flawlessly as well, allowing the story to unfold in a frothy rush and maintaining the necessary tempo to highlight the barbed exchanges as well as the drawling commentaries. Simply fabulous, the audio deserves a wide audience. It will thrill Chase’s many fans and serve as a great introduction to the best work of Reading.” Booklist (starred audio review)
“From one of the genre’s best-loved authors.” Library Journal
“Poignant, beautifully written…and scorchingly sensual.” Mary Jo Putney, author of Dancing in The Windhew
