This brilliant new detective series introduces Los Angeles’ latest gumshoe. For those who have been waiting for the next Phillip Marlowe, Sam Spade, Mike Hammer, or Jim Rockford, the wait is over! Author Nicholas Sheridan Stanton unveils the latest result of his chronically leaky cranium in a clever new detective series he’s calling the Gumshoe Diaries. In the first book, The Gumshoe Diaries: Fortune Cookies Always Lie, he introduces us to Whitey Roode, a shaggy but likeable former LAPD gold shield who turned private investigator after (as he tells it) being invited to retire by the brass. Stanton then takes us on a wheels-within-wheels scavenger hunt for the killer—or killers—of pretty Mei Li Teng (a.k.a Sally November), the not-so-innocent niece of Whitey’s close friends and occasionally accurate snitches, Jai Lai and Lu Rong. The quirky Asian couple owns a trendy and ridiculously popular New York–style delicatessen downtown in the heart of Los Angeles called Show-M-U-Lyke-M. They hire Whitey to find out whodunit to little Miss Sally. As it turns out, the college education her uncles thought they were sponsoring is far more dangerous than the standard three Rs.

Fun Listen
- In the world of detective stories, tough guy vernacular dominates the styling with usually banal trying-to-be-funny-or-clever repartee. In Gumshoe Diaries, we’re treated to a better than average number of quips that are actually funny and clever. Peter Berkrot delivers his usual high-energy gruff persona, making the main character both likable and true to the genre’s expectation. A very nice changeup comes from co-narrator, Bronson Pinchot, who delivers a very convincing psycho voiced Hannibal type nemesis that works well. Hillary Huber garners less airtime, but fulfills the needs of her character in fine fashion. All in all, a fun listen and one that could lead to a desire to follow more of Stanton’s writing on audiobooks.

- Really enjoyed this book! Loveable characters and great storyline. The actors who brought this work to life did an outstanding job, award worthy performances. I would definitely recommend this book and will encourage my friends and family to get on board with Blackstone Audio and Downpour!

Nice Way To Spend Evening or Two
- I read this book expecting it to be another quick I can figure this out in ten minutes who done it . Boy oh boy was I wrong , the story is about ex detective Whitey Roode who is of course a bit down on his luck when things all start to happen at a break neck speed . Now here is something I was not expecting right from the beginning this book is keeping you laughing out loud and I don't mean lol , you'll be just like in years gone by actually finding that you have that silly grin on your face like your the only one in on the joke. However there is a murder investigation ongoing with my twists and turns . I know many people say these types of cliques , but I actually thought oh man I got this maybe two or three times only to be proven wrong. I brought this book done so well by the three different narrators and was very pleasantly surprised. Go out and download or rent your copy today you'll be glad you did very well written I sure hope the author is working on more of these books !!!

Move over, Raymond Chandler
- Nicholas, like Seth Hardwood and others, is reinventing the PI genre for the current day. This one is great, with some good twists and turns and terrific characters. The narration is top-notch also - it's like stepping into a classic noir movie in your head.
