A must read
- A staunchly committed revolutionary figure of her time, Davis proves she’s also a very good writer. Top that off with a surprisingly appropriate narration (by herself, admittedly, not an actor) and you have the makings of a book you’ll listen to several times. She projects her thinking beyond the moment and into the future of what seems to continue to be a maze with no exit. Writing in 1974, there was ahead generations of possible change, but with a country that is presently wallowing still in racism and bigotry, Davis’s hopes are still in the future. The events she writes about are in the past, but all of us could be enlightened by her wisdom and courage. Highly recommended.

Angela Davis is a political activist, scholar, author, and speaker. She is an outspoken advocate for the oppressed and exploited, writing on Black liberation, prison abolition, the intersections of race, gender, and class, and international solidarity with Palestine. Her books include Freedom Is a Constant Struggle; Are Prisons Obsolete?; Women, Race, and Class; and an autobiography. She is the subject of the acclaimed documentary Free Angela and All Political Prisoners and is distinguished professor emerita at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
