Horse, Anyone?

Get to the roots of urban fiction with this classic of the genre. Donald Goines holds back nothing in this gritty, gruesome, and gross depiction of the downward spiral into the world of dopefiendery. The title tells it all. I had a difficult time trying to nail down the main character, but suspect it was Terry, the once-good girl gone bad because of her pusher boyfriend. The scenes were tough in regards to images of junkies and the flophouses they inhabit, but overall, the violence in this book was very little when compared to another of Goines’ novels, Whoreson. Kevin Kenerly brought this book the flavor it demands with his variety of urban voicing choices.
