Once upon a time, in the haunted city of Derry, four boys stood together and did a brave thing. It was something that changed them in ways they could never begin to understand. Twenty-five years after saving a Down's-syndrome kid from bullies, Beav, Henry, Pete, and Jonesy -- now men with separate lives and separate problems -- reunite in the woods of Maine for their annual hunting trip. But when a stranger stumbles into their camp, disoriented and mumbling something about lights in the sky, chaos erupts. Soon, the four friends are plunged into a horrifying struggle with a creature from another world where their only chance of survival is locked in their shared past -- and in the Dreamcatcher.

Editorial Reviews

Editorial Reviews

“A frenzied, multilayered, every-accelerating nightmare.”  New York Times Book Review
“King supplies enough spooky effects and space aliens to meet his usual quota of weird frissons…There is also a new urgency. In this craftily phantasmagoric story about dreams, telepathy, and extraterrestrials, the emphasis on fear than on the shared will and capacity to survive…Makes for great midnight reading.”  New York Times
“King retains his crown.”  Guardian (London)
“One of his most haunting and suspenseful works to date…proves once again why he is the reigning master of dark fiction…Do not start Dreamcatcher late at night unless you’re prepared to read straight through until daybreak.”  Barnes & Noble, editorial review

Story

Was Ok

I'll keep it short and simple with this review. Sadly, I preferred the movie. I've been a Stephen King fan since I was a kid. Carrie was the first novel I read. Not the first Stephen King novel I read. The first NOVEL I read. Dreamcatcher the novel dragged on in a lot of spots. It did flesh out some parts that were necessary and were left out of the movie. But strangely, I still find that I enjoyed the movie more. So, any future forays into this story will be via DVD. Yeah, I'm still shocked to be saying this. And yet I recommend it? Yes, I agree with myself that I needed to read this book. It's one of those "read once" books. So, go out and read it one time. And then forever watch the movie. I'll quit while I'm ahead.
