I Have Conquered Dune!
- Let’s talk about Dune. For years, I avoided it. I’d heard about it and read the description. It did not inspire interest. Recently, two things inspired me to read it . . . the trailer for the upcoming movie and this video - https://youtu.be/oOomSvGXfaM . For me, this story itself is a very solid 3.5 star story. I was never bored. I took my time with, it, never rushing it. And I think that made for a positive experience. Back to ratings, my personal mantra is, I do not round up. But I am going to adjust that rule with this book, and I hope I can get my point across. I just finished this book 55 years after it initially came out. Since its publication, it has become a very well-liked and respected book, and it has influenced many movies and books since then. I have recognized some during my reading, but I know there are many more. The influences are what matter. Had I been alive and read the book when it was first published, what is now influence would have been fresh, new, and exciting to me. Instead, I got the fresh, new, and exiting by what it inspired and influenced. That cannot be ignored. Therefore I pay the respect it earned now. Therefore, not rounding up, I’m left with 3 stars. I’m adding another full star for being a trailblazer for what followed. Therefore, I give Frank Herbert’s Dune a well-deserved and well-earned 4 out of 5 stars. As of now, I do no plan on reading the subsequent books in the series.
