Story

Fantastic escape

Garth Nix has pulled it off again, and Heather Wilds does a fabulous job, especially with certain characters. This story is just a wonderful escape with a touch of romance that edges into young adult territory. Adults will love it though, because it is so well written and the adventure carries you through from beginning to end. Despite the dark content, it's actually a pretty lighthearted story — it goes quickly and just leaves you feeling good. I was so happy that Nix decided to return to this world, and he certainly didn't disappoint. Everything is just tied up neatly with both main characters, Lirael and Sameth. A new character is introduced also, a very lovable, wild nomad girl. I would certainly love to read another story with her in it and I suspect that one could be forthcoming. Wilds delivers her feistiness with humor and spunk. There were times when I felt she was reading rather slow, but I suppose for a young adult book that might be advisable. It did not diminish the pleasure much at all.
