#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The “mercilessly entertaining” (Vanity Fair) instant classic “about the nature of identity and the terrible secrets that can survive and thrive in even the most intimate relationships” (Lev Grossman, Time). NAMED ONE OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL BOOKS OF THE DECADE BY CNN AND ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE DECADE BY TIME AND ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY NAMED ONE OF THE TEN BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY Janet Maslin, The New York Times • People • Entertainment Weekly • O: The Oprah Magazine • Slate • Kansas City Star • USA Today • Christian Science Monitor On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer? Anti-Climatic psychological thriller
- I want to praise the voice actors, they are wonderful. The story comes together nicely. The flow lends its self to the final product of the plot. I so wanted to get my husbands perspective on events unfolding. I am sure a mans perspective is different in regards to character development, moral issues and behaviors. I know some people who were left frustrated and unsatisfied with the ending. I enjoy the fact that we could get a book 2 out of the story. Its a who done it- psychological drama with plenty of stones unturned. Give yourself plenty of time to get through its a lengthy read.

A cultural phenomenon
- I purchased the print copy and got about halfway through before I put the book down--I did not like the hate and blackness spewing from the story and the language. It just was not my cup of tea so I gave the book away. I subsequently saw the film because I love the Director and because the critical reviews were so good. I really liked the film and saw it twice, and I was glad I did NOT know what was going to happen. I decided that I should try to finish the book (after the first viewing and before the second viewing) so I went the audiobook route. I still could not finish the final chapters, for all the same reasons! I recognize the public acclaim for the book so perhaps I'm missing something--I must be. The author is definitely talented and she clearly has her finger on the pulse of pop culture, but I cannot recommend the book. I highly recommend the film but I don't compare them (books and films) as they are different mediums. They are apples and oranges.

Fine, I'll be the minority. This thing is WAY overrated.
- My wife and I simultaneously (and quite by coincidence) decided to read/listen to the book. She read the hardcopy, I listened to Kirby and Julia's well done narration over a couple of days during a LONG car trip. We couldn't wait to convene and go over the story and give our differing opinions on the interpretation. BUT...and this tends to be a little weird for us, we had almost identical opinions on the story. Summed up here: This is a trashy page-turner. No more, no less. And very weirdly if feel like Gillian Flynn got tired of writing, or ran out of disc space or something because the story, quite literally....just...stops. There is no real end. Some may call it an existential end and you can interpret it what you will, but seriously, this book is not that deep, and frankly the lack of a satisfying ending makes everything that leads up to it lose the gravitas that you think you may be interpreting. There are FAR more interesting thrillers that can be enjoyed on Downpour.com. Check out anything by Patricia Highsmith (who feels like an influence here but crafts a much MUCH deeper narrative).

Exciting
- I always love a suspense novel that keeps me changing my theory on what really happened all the way through. This one convinces you of one narrative only to flip halfway through and reveal a completely different one; all with creepy monologues, flawed characters, and psychological twists galore. The narrators were great, especially the one narrating Amy’s storylines...which I can’t say more about without giving something away… The story was entertaining and gritty, definitely one you won’t be able to put down!

Mind blown
- This book is nuts. The ever-building suspense and complex, crazy characters are wonderfully drawn by author Gillian Flynn. The story is interesting and grips you right away, and you stay sucked in because you just have to know what's going on in this insane world you've entered into. The dual narration between Kirby Heyborne and Julia Whelan is excellent, nuanced and fluid. Great book!
