Every story can change a life. Growing up isn’t easy. Many young people face daily tormenting and bullying, making them feel like they have nowhere to turn. This is especially true for LGBT kids and teens who often hide their sexuality for fear of being bullied. Without other openly gay adults and mentors in their lives, they can’t imagine what their future may hold. In many instances, gay and lesbian adolescents are taunted—even tortured—simply for being themselves. After a number of tragic suicides by LGBT students who were bullied in school, syndicated columnist and author Dan Savage uploaded a video to YouTube with his partner, Terry Miller, to inspire hope for LGBT youth facing harassment. Speaking openly about the bullying they suffered as teenagers and how they both went on to lead rewarding adult lives, they launched the It Gets Better Project YouTube channel and initiated a worldwide phenomenon. With over six thousand videos posted and over twenty million views in the first three months alone, the world has embraced the opportunity to provide personal, honest, and heartfelt support for LGBT youth everywhere. It Gets Better is a collection of expanded essays and new material from celebrities, everyday people, and teens who have posted videos of encouragement, as well as new contributors who have yet to post videos to the site. While many of these teens couldn’t see a positive future for themselves, others can. We can show LGBT youth the levels of happiness, potential, and positivity their lives will reach if they can just get through their teen years. By sharing these stories, It Gets Better reminds teenagers in the LGBT community that they are not alone—and it WILL get better.

It really does get better.
- As the lone fat kid growing up in a small logging town, I know what it feels like to be bullied, relentlessly. I would give anything to be able to talk to my younger self to give him the message that it does get better. Lacking a time machine, this book and project are the next best thing and should be required reading in our schools. The heartfelt messages and the stellar work of Dan Savage bringing this all together make "It Gets Better" a true "must read". There is something special about the audio version that really brings the stories to life.
-
Inspirational!
- Chances are we all know of some teen who is struggling to cope with society's fear of homosexuality. This book, sensatively narrated by veterans Paul Michael Garcia and Margariute Gavin, is a becon of hope for those youngsters, and I suspect, adults as well.

heartfelt
- Very touching. This should be required for kids in middle school!

A Must Listen
- Bullying in America is an epidemic. Especially in the workplace, where the bullies look to get ahead by picking on others they feel superior to for any of a multitude of reasons. It Gets Better is an amazing book for victims of this abuse who might at times feel driven to desperate acts. Don’t do anything dumb, It Gets Better for sure, there is hope and it begins by listening to this book!!!

Emotional
- Granted I was predisposed to this, not for being gay, but from being bullied. If you or even know someone (chances are good) that is being bullied/abused for being who they are, this book could help them through those dark times in their lives. The stories go from heartbreaking, to hopeful. Bullying and prejudice may never go away, but stories of hope, like the ones found here, is a step in the right direction. Paul Micheal Garcia and Marguerite Gavin, tell the stories with emotion and precision. Don't pass this up, it can only make you a better person.
