Editorial Reviews

Editorial Reviews

“Narrator Nicholas Guy Smith leads the listener through this ghoulish collection of short stories, his charming British accent accentuating the heavy dash of dour humor that pervades Cabal’s universe. The introduction, read by the author himself, prepares listeners for a sometimes ghastly but mostly enjoyable ride. Smith has a way of lowering his voice to hushed tones during suspenseful points, piquing the listener’s interest. His conversational tone ties the stories together, making them equally enjoyable to listen to in bite-size chunks or several hours at a time.” AudioFile

Beautiful collection, but SO short!

Although I've read all the stories from this collection before (and listened to in case of "House of Gears"), one can't simply get enough of Howard's brilliant necromancer. If you read (and re-read, and re-read, and re-read...) and love Johannes Cabal novels like I do, you've already bought and listened to this book. If you don't know who Johannes Cabal is - this collection is exactly what you need. There's a malicious wind, redesigning lilliputians, a pantomime, a murderous house, a parliament in primordial chaos, a half-woman half-spider devil and a loofah, dissolved in hot acid. Fun!

But I wish there were twice as much stories, book was so short. Can't wait for the promised in the introduction fifth novel to appear!
