The author of The Average American Male and The Lie returns with a shocking, salacious, and surprisingly subtle new novel of the average American family. Like Neil Strauss and Nick Hornby, Chad Kultgen has the capacity to enthrall and astonish even the most ardent readers of contemporary literary fiction. In Men, Women, and Children, his incisive vision, unerring prose, and red-light-district imagination are at their most ambitious and surprising, as he explores the sexual pressures of junior high school students and their parents navigating the internet’s shared landscape of pornography, blogs, social networking, and its promise of opportunities, escapes, reinvented identities, and unexpected conflicts.

Editorial Reviews

“Dark, hilarious, but most of all honest, Men, Women & Children is an unparalleled snapshot of sexual politics in the age of social networking, one that reminds me of my first encounters with films like The Graduate and American Beauty.” Jason Reitman, director of Juno
“With The Average American Male and The Lie, Kultgen earned a cult following as an audacious, candid chronicler of broken hearts and pop culture. His new novel explores private obsessions and secret lives in the age of the Internet and reality TV…His observations into how people become corrupted and needy are funny and moving.” Booklist
Men, Women & Children explores all of the things that most Americans don’t talk about, and in the course of showing what happens when we don’t communicate with each other, it deftly exposes how we can be both tender and frightening, moving and bizarre, in one of the most beautiful ways I’ve seen outside of real life.” Stoya, star of Perfect Picture
“[Kultgen] speaks the voice of our generation very authentically. And you rarely see that in the media today.” George “Maddox” Ouzounian, author of The Alphabet of Manliness

Story

A Hilarious & Shocking Novel

A shocking & hilarious closer look at the inner emotional & sexual lives of average American families. The story follows a variety of well developed characters of all different ages interconnected through family or friends in an average suburban community centered around football games and PTA meetings as both their lives and anxieties intertwine in the most relatable, and sometimes disturbing ways. The most mundane anxieties become the most poignant, and every character feels like someone who could be living down the street from you right now. Reminiscent of "American Beauty," this story challenges the assumption that the simplicity and the status-quo is synonymous with happiness.
