Until recently, one idea has dominated research in treating Alzheimer’s disease: the amyloid hypothesis. Those therapies have repeatedly fallen short, and in this audiobook we take a look at where that hypothesis stands today. We examine recent research into the spectrum of disease causes, including inflammation and immune dysfunction; cutting-edge treatments, including deep-brain stimulation and magnetic resonance–guided focused ultrasound; as well as lifestyle interventions that can help protect from disease.

Insight into the killer disease
- Alzheimer’s disease being one of the most destructive diseases that can afflict anyone, especially the aged, receives a thorough review of what is known in this book. Up till now, the studies for a cure have fallen short. Of special disappointment are the results of numerous attempts at a consensus regarding the amyloid hypothesis. Scientific America takes the opportunity to study disease causes including among several examinations, the state of deep brain stimulation and how in combination with lifestyle choices potential victims have means of forstalling or even preventing the disease from attacking them. The narrators Kate Mulligan, Erica Sullivan, Traber Burns and Mack Sanderson do a stellar job of delivering the detailed text in user-friendly voicings that contribute immensely to the understanding of the books position.
