A propulsive science fiction tale of murder and memory, all set on a futuristic space station. Hundreds of miles above Earth, the space station Ciudad de Cielo--The City in the Sky--is a beacon of hope for humanity's expansion into the stars. But not everyone aboard shares such noble ideals. Bootlegging, booze, and prostitution form a lucrative underground economy for rival gangs, which the authorities are happy to turn a blind eye to until a disassembled corpse is found dancing in the micro-gravity. In charge of the murder investigation is Nikki "Fix" Freeman, who is not thrilled to have Alice Blake, an uptight government goody-two-shoes, riding shotgun. As the bodies pile up, and the partners are forced to question their own memories, Nikki and Alice begin to realize that gang warfare may not be the only cause for the violence.

Christopher Brookmyre hits another high score with this brilliant, fast-paced nightmare. Charles Stross on Bedlam
Excellent hardboiled noir...absolutely gripping. SciFiNow
A fascinating, fast-paced but thoughtful blend of science fiction and techno-thriller. Iain M. Banks on Bedlam
His writing is as sharply observed and mordantly funny as ever. Guardian on Where the Bodies Are Buried
Chris Brookmyre is a genius. Daily Mirror on The Sacred Art of Stealing
“It has to be difficult to provide the voices for an entire city. Yet that’s just what narrator Robin Miles does wonderfully in this mystery set aboard the space station Cuidad de Cielo. Complicating matters is the fact that this outpost, a jumping-off point to the stars, is populated by outcasts of many nationalities who are seeking new lives…For Miles, this requires numerous accents and dialects, all of which she handles deftly. Miles creates indelible characters, allowing listeners to sit back and enjoy this thriller’s propulsive action. Winner of the AudioFile Earphones Award.” AudioFile

Great read

This was the first Chris Brookmyre book I have listened to and I couldn’t turn it off. I loved this book. The world building was very well done. The descriptions of the space station were vibrant and was one of my favorite aspects of the book. It was claustrophobic in some areas and positively ghost town in others. And I LOVED the ending!!!
