The first in a superb new series from phenomenal author Geir Tangen, Requiem strikes a deliciously chilling chord. Journalist Viljar Gudmundsson is no stranger to chilling stories. So when he receives an anonymous email in which the writer proclaims their intention to execute a woman for her unpunished crimes, he thinks the whole thing is a bad joke. Such things happen only in bad crime novels, after all. But the next day, the body of a woman is found, and Viljar receives a second email with another verdict from this self-proclaimed judge, jury, and executioner. Viljar joins forces with investigator Lotte Skeisvoll, who quickly realizes that the murderer is playing a deadly game with them. The clues are all pointing in the same direction, and the murders are strangely familiar …

Editorial Reviews

“Narrator Gerard Doyle uses his soft, elegant voice to narrate this deviously clever mystery…Doyle breathes life into the two protagonists: Lotte Skeisvoll, a detective heading her first murder investigation, and Viljar Ravn Gudnundsson, a burned-out journalist…Doyle’s genteel rendering belies the underlying horror of the mystery as it unfolds.” AudioFile
“A great and thrilling crime novel.” Kristeligt Dagblad (Copenhagen)
“A magnificent crime debut…Well-composed, well-written, funny, and brutal…a great crime novel, with a few bold, unexpected twists.” Bok (5 stars) (Norway)
“There are crime novels you simply have to read. Geir Tangen is a master in his own right.” Fyens Stiftstidene (Odense, Denmark)
“True to the genre. A dark and slightly creepy thriller that fans of Henning Mankell and Arnaldur Indridason will appreciate.” Library Journal
“This Gudmundsson and Skeisvoll series debut is a gripping, suitably atmospheric must-read for Scandinavian crime-fiction devotees; Tangen draws in scenes from favorites Gunnar Staalesen, Jo Nesbø, Anne Holt, and Henning Mankell in a clever play on life’s imitation of art.” Booklist
