Editorial Reviews

“In this debut novel, a war between the immortal forces of good and evil stretches over millenniums…The most powerful element of this volume is its depiction of the complexities faced by an Emissary, moving from life to life with incomplete memories of previous incarnations, only able to recognize one another’s distinctive auras at close range…A stirring first installment in a sprawling fantasy epic, ending on a pronounced To Be Continued note.” Kirkus Reviews

I loved that I went through this journey with the characters by listening to the authors narrate the story.

I haven’t reviewed many audiobooks before, but this one, just from the synopsis, I knew that it would be an amazing fantasy novel that I really wanted to know more about, no matter if it was by listening to the authors narrate it or by reading it. I didn’t care, I just wanted to be a part of the adventure, and that’s what happened.

I could tell you all about the world that the authors created but I don’t want to spoil anything, so I will leave it in the air, let’s just say that this world is complex, although not enough that you would be confused. Like life itself, it has many aspects, many characters that are connected, twists and turns, action and good and evil battling out.

I loved that I got to discover all the peculiarities about this world and about the emissaries by listening to the authors narrate the story. I listen to it during workout at the gym and at some points, I was running and I could almost feel like I was there with the characters and was running around. It was perfect for me and I loved that, I loved that the authors not only captivated me with the storytelling and the amazing characters and world, but they also captivated me with how they narrated the story.

I almost don’t know what to say or think. I want to know more about the characters and I want to know if good wins and the future of mankind is safe. I felt like I was on a rollercoaster, thanks to all the emotions, adrenaline, curiosity and concentration I had during the multiple times I listen to the audiobook.

I didn’t listen to it in one sitting because I wanted to savor every moment and understand the world to it’s fullest. Yet I was still wondering and looking for all the answers and trying to figure out what was going to happen next. Since it’s a storytelling about rebirth and love, as much as it is about saving mankind, in this fantasy world, my heart was fully in.

Overall, it’s an amazing start of a series and I can’t wait to know more and read and listen to more of their books in this series. Do I recommend it? Of course! If the synopsis and my review haven’t sold the book yet, I do hope you still give it a try, just look at the cover and it’s awesome design.

awesome first book in series

I really enjoyed this book. I love time travel & alternate reality books. While this isn’t exactly in either of those categories it does blur those lines a bit. I cant wait to see where Marcus ends up. Ready for book 2!
This would be a great book for older mature teens. I think book 2 will have more history in it. I am looking forward to it.

Surprisingly Good

The book is exactly as it states - A timeless tale of love reborn through the ages. Accurate yes but there is so much more in the book to enjoy. I try not to read too much about a story before reading it as I like to go in somewhat blind. I wasn't into it at first as I had no clue where the story was headed. Then as the story began to progress I was hooked.
Imagine finding your one true love, your other self, your other half, not only on a physical level but on an eternal one that extents forever. In that time you are born, you live, and die over and over throughout time. Sometimes you find your special someone, sometimes you might be their dad, their mom, their husband, their wife, they could be the reverse, but the important thing is you find that person even though you don't know you are looking. The story isn't love and lust, it is about a couple that love each other and things like time and death can not stop.
The narration is good although I had to get used to the multiple speakers as I'm so accustomed to one person reading everything. It wasn't a bad adjustment.
Looking forward to the second book.

This was a great time travel story with a unique take on the premise. The author beautifully weaves good vs evil, love, and adventure together for a great story that sucked me right in and held my interest the whole time. The narration was done well and helped bring this book to life.

An excellent read of love throughout the age of time

Feedback
This was an interesting book. The concept of it was very intriguing and while I initially thought this story was going to be something else, I wasn’t disappointed with the story given. I was expecting a lot more traveling through time while Marcus and Theron tries to find each other through the years but that isn’t what really happened. The story starts with Marcus and Theron in their early lives and how they became Emissary’s - which I really enjoyed. I’m glad the authors didn’t focus on their actual relationship but what it meant to become an Emissary. Then we are thrown into the future then back into one of their past lives then into the future again. That’s what really got to me. I felt like this back and forth threw the pace off a little. I was wondering why we were giving one particular back story at this point in the novel. While I thoroughly enjoyed it, the set up of the book seemed a little off. It also felt unfinished. We get this big epic story and then we are thrust back into the future for just a little before it ends. I am really glad this is a series and we will get more but I felt like there could have been a little more added to make it feel complete. Other than that I honestly really enjoyed this book and cannot wait to see what next life we will get of Marcus and Theron.
The novel follows Marcus throughout the times. I really enjoyed his character and was able to connect with him. The loss he feels is really portrayed and the love of Theron is shown. The relationship wasn’t expanded so much in the beginning but the authors were really successful in capturing their deep love and connection. It made you want them to find each other in each life they are reincarnated in. Helghul was a fantastic villain and it was fascinating to see how all of their fates are intertwined. I know their present journey is going to be tough and I will be looking forward to seeing what their past lives have done.

Final Thoughts
Overall, The Emissary was an excellent read. While I was expecting more stories through the ages, the authors provided a great origin story and an epic story of the soulmates reuniting. I really liked the approach because it shows more than one type of love a person can encounter in their lifetime. The characters were made for this story and it is easy to see how they are connected in each of their lives. While some of the story felt a little incomplete, I am hoping that will be resolved as the series continues. I highly recommend this book for those who are looking for an epic romance that lasts through the age of time.

Audio Review
NOTE: The narration does not affect my rating of the book
I was very surprised with how well this audio was. The author’s themselves narrated the book, which had me a little weary at first. They nailed this audio and really brought their words to life. Each scene was so fantastically done and the intense scenes even more. There were some very smart editing decisions that also enhance this story. I highly recommend this audio.

Ancient History, Dystopian futures

What I liked?

Without giving anything away, I can honestly say I was drawn in from the very beginning. The backstories on the main character mainly drew me. I knew a lot happened prior to the opening of this work and it made me want to go back and find out more.

Also, there are a lot of elements to this book. There’s the struggle concerning good and evil of course, but then you’ve got pieces of ancient history with sort of a dystopia twist. I thought it was pretty cool.

What I didn’t like?

The matter of the characters backstory was something that I liked but it also felt like there was more that could have been here. I wanted the authors to go into that more.

Overall?
This is a fantasy that also makes you think and I’m all for anything that makes you think so I recommend it. It’s lit enough for me to give it a go. Maybe you’ll enjoy it too.

Love through time in all forms

Reading a novel you fall in love with characters and how you perceive them. The Emissary Audiobook read to you from the authors was the best Audiobook I have listened to in a long time. The passion and emotion coming from the spoken word of the people who hold dear these characters made them even more dear to me. I fell in love with Marcus, Theron and even Helghul again. I found a greater understanding through the spoken word. The story of the Emissary's and the work in which they were put out into the world to do is a passionate story of love and learning at a higher level of understanding and knowledge of freethinking. Hearing Mother Love through the author and mother of three, showed the true emotion and connection to true feelings of every mother out there. It truly resonated the unconditional love a mother holds for their child.

A Story of Good and Evil, Love and Hate

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This tale of the triumph of good over evil spans different worlds, from an idyllic society where negative feelings cannot even be imagined, to one where society turns into a competing race for power and lust. It is also an enduring love story that can keep the lovers apart, but not destroy their connection. Not the typical story of the triumph of good over evil, this book will transport you into fantastical worlds that only the author's imagination can conjure. There are some graphic scenes that might make some readers uneasy, but never in bad taste and completely related to the storyline. The writing is pleasant and the narration powerful. An interesting fantasy book.

An interesting look at humanity's history

When I read the premise of this novel I was instantly sold. Listening to the opening chapters of the audionovel I was afraid that it was going to disappoint, but when the novel got to the part what the premise was talking about, the story really got going and just sucked me right in. I love listening to slice of life stories and this one gives you that with a lot of interconnectivity to boot. Of course I already have my own suspicions who Hellguhl is in the present time and I seriously hope I'm wrong!

Good concept and story but narration was only so so

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

The Book

The story was ok, it had an interesting premise and some clever ideas that made me think in some ways of Immortal by Gene Doucette. Sometimes it had too much description and narration and little in the way of active character interaction which I think would have helped things a bit more but it's not bad if you can stick with it but its not amazing either I'm not sure how much of this was down to the narration and how much the story.

The Production

Sometimes Authors shouldn't narrate their work and instead look to a professional narrator or actors. Rene DeFazio was clear in his speech and tried to put emotion into his speech but I don't think he went far enough to differentiate things. His character voices sometimes were ok and other times were a bit ridiculous so its hit or miss.
Tamara Veitch was used for the odd female characters and seemed a bit stilted and the sound quality seemed a bit off and like it had been obviously inserted into the main flow of the recording. Again it wasn't bad but a better production would certainly capture the listener more and bring them into the story.
