A Fun, Quick Listen for the Aspiring Monster
- I’m always intrigued by how these junior novelizations are written. It’s quite a challenge to take a story originally told in a way that places emphasis on the visual and slapstick into a written (then spoken) format. In Monsters, Inc., and Monsters University, Kiki Thorpe and Irene Trimble respectively prove themselves quite adept at crafting movie adaptations into a book. The scenes and characters are vivid and capture the heart of the story. Narrator RC Bray was a terrific casting choice, able to voice characters ranging from gruff to sweet to dopey and all types in between. And he roars superbly without blowing out your eardrums. He would make a good candidate for MU’s Scaring Progam. This is a good listen, especially for littles who enjoy the Monsters, Inc., franchise.
