C. H. Spurgeon (1834–1892) served for thirty years as preacher and pastor of London’s six-thousand-seat Metropolitan Tabernacle, which his growing congregation opened in 1861. His writings, including thousands of sermons, are still popular with pastors and devotional readers.
Author Bio: Arthur W. Pink
Arthur Walkington Pink (1886–1952) was one of the most influential evangelical authors in the second half of the twentieth century. He was born in England and converted in his twenties. He served as a pastor in Colorado and other locations until he decided to concentrate on writing and speaking at conferences. The next year he started a monthly magazine, Studies in the Scriptures, which he edited until his death. His writing focused on biblical living and sparked a revival of expository preaching. His works include The Attributes of God, The Patience of God, and The Satisfaction of Christ, among many others.

Anthony Burgess (1917–1993) was one of the UK’s leading academics and most respected literary figures. A prolific author, during his writing career Burgess found success as a novelist, critic, composer, playwright, screenwriter, travel writer, essayist, poet, and librettist, as well as working as a translator, broadcaster, linguist, and educationalist. His fiction includes Nothing Like the Sun, a re-creation of Shakespeare’s love life, but he is perhaps most famous for the complex and controversial novel A Clockwork Orange, exploring the nature of evil. Born in Manchester, he spent time living in Southeast Asia, the USA, and Mediterranean Europe as well as in England.

Author Bio: Jeremiah Burroughs
Jeremiah Burroughs (1600–1646) was an English Congregationalist and a well-known Puritan preacher. It is said that he harmoniously combined in his own person qualities that might be considered incompatible: a fervent zeal for doctrinal purity and worship and a peaceable spirit which longed and labored for Christian unity. It is said that his heart was broken by the divisions among the Puritan reformers in the 1640s and that this contributed to his premature death at age forty-six.
Among his contemporaries and colleagues, Burroughs was recognized as outstanding for his conciliatory temper and efforts. The often-quoted opinion of Richard Baxter was that if all the Episcopalians had been like Archbishop Ussher, all the Presbyterians like Stephen Marshall, and all the Independents like Jeremiah Burroughs, then the breaches of the Church would soon have been healed.

Matthew Henry (1662–1714) was a Presbyterian minister in England who began his commentary on the Bible in 1704. He completed his work up to the end of Acts before his death. Afterward, his ministerial friends completed the work from Henry’s notes and writings.
