Editorial Reviews

Editorial Reviews

“[Wordsworth’s poetry] is great because of the extraordinary power with which [he] feels the joy offered to us in nature, the joy offered to us in the simple elementary affections and duties.” Matthew Arnold
“What made Wordsworth’s poems a medicine for my state of mind was that they expressed not mere outward beauty but states of feeling and of thought colored by feeling, under the excitement of beauty. They seemed to be the very culture of the feelings which I was in quest of.” John Stuart Mill
“The confusions and contradictions of Wordsworth’s young life, fed into the complex, subtle power of his great works.” Hermione Lee, literary biographer
“Perhaps the most celebrated and lastingly influential of the English Romantic poets…a monumental figure in English letters.” Cambridge Guide to Literature in English
