Edgar Allan Poe is rightly famed as a master of the mysterious and macabre. In January 1845, The Raven was published and became an instant classic, and thereafter followed the many works for which he is still celebrated today.

Poe's early literary works were poetic, but he quickly turned to prose. He worked for several magazines and journals early in his career, until his short story writing career took off.
