Ivanhoe

Written in 1819 but set in the time of the Norman conquest, the great adventure novel Ivanhoe is a tale of struggling love set against a violent backdrop of politics and war. Wilfred of Ivanhoe, a noble Saxon, is disinherited by his father Cedric when he supports the Norman cause, fighting with King Richard I in the Crusades. Ivanhoe returns from fighting in the Crusades in disguise and sets out on several quests, including winning the hand of his love Rowena, Cedric's high-born ward. This great medieval story is an epic tale of love, chivalry, and bravery, and a one of Sir Walter Scott's most enduringly popular works.
