Henry Fielding's ambitious comic novel tells the story of Tom Jones, a foundling who is brought up by kindly Squire Allworthy at his estate in Somerset, England. Tom grows up to be good-natured but wild; though in love with the seeming unattainable daughter of a neighboring squire, Tom cannot stay true and his promiscuity leads to misadventures throughout southern England as he attempts to navigate his way through life.

Tom Jones is generally regarded as Henry Fielding's greatest work and one the most influential English novels. Tom's roguish adventures are as fresh and entertaining today as they were when first publish in 1749.
