Near Perfection
The Club scene didn't lend itself to casual dating and really getting to
know someone like Warren, and conversely, she hadn't been able to afford
a lot of time in having him come to know her. She had taken her courage
in both hands and made the leap into a D/s relationship with him and truly
thought it had been the best thing to do at the time. She still did, although
those parts of her that she quashed sometimes longed for someone to
tease and squabble with, and have fun with.
Warren was a ruthless and wealthy businessman. He had inherited the
business from his father, just as he had inherited considerable wealth and
the family home. He was an only child, and Haley thought that was a
shame. Siblings might have softened Warren. Haley's mom had died from
cancer two years ago, and only the connection, albeit a long distance one,
with her sister Iris had made life bearable then. That and her obsession
with Warren. It had given her hope as well. Warren came across as a cold
and distant person, but Haley believed, with all her heart, that a kind,
loving man lived inside that exterior. She had seen glimpses of him when
he wasn't being the person he thought he should project. He was such a
complex man, and at times a total contradiction, even if he wasn't aware of
it. Haley's continuing mission in life had been the study of Warren, after all.
