Katherine O’Flaherty, better known as Kate Chopin, is widely considered as one of America’s greatest novelists, excelling especially in the short story form. A native of Louisiana, her Creole, Cajun, Irish, and French background helped provide a rich source of ideas for her literary works. Regarded as one of the original feminist writers, her stories not only gave women a voice, but also offered a fresh viewpoint on society as a whole.
