WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

Every time another American law enforcement officer is hurt or killed doing something odd, this is the first thing that comes to my mind. If you are thinking of going into law enforcement, already an officer, or are a friend or family member of one and want some insight into the mindset such an individual needs to have, this book was written for you.

I won't make any promises that this book will make you or them the safest cop on the streets. I wish I could, but none of us even know whether we have the next five minutes until we take our last breath. That doesn't mean we should live our lives in fear, nor should we live like our lives don't matter. My intention in writing this book is to help save lives by giving a different perspective of what it means to be a cop, using humor when possible.

What I will promise the reader is this: I will always tell you the truth, to the best of my knowledge.

Incidents in this book are real events that happened very much as written, either to the author or one of his co-workers. Anyone who has an interest in the safety and well-being of law enforcement officers (LEOs), and their relationships with their friends and families, will have a better grasp of why they behave like they do. Dealing daily with strangers having one of the worst days of their lives takes a toll on these exceptional individuals. Having a certain mindset can make all the difference towards them making it home in one piece at the end of the day...and emotionally surviving to do it all again tomorrow.
